Leaving for Guangzhuo

The intrepid cyclists from the Over 55 Cycling Club were due to leave Perth in the morning (Sunday 5th) at 8:30. Don, Peter, Walter,  Bruce, Don's daughter Jenny and Michelle are coming from Bali. John is already in Guangzhou, but is not well.

We got to the airport this morning to find our plane, which was coming from Guangzhou had been diverted to Adelaide because of the fog in Perth.   After some confusion it now seems the incoming flight will arrive in Perth from Adelaide about 1pm and leave (as currently scheduled) at 2:10 pm.  Hence we will not get to Guangzhou till 10:30pm, or so, some 6 hours late.   This is better than it might have been, as there were initial concerns that the aircrew would be out of flying hours, and we might have had to wait till tomorrow

China by Bike

On this trip you go as a traveller, only to find that you become the main attraction, as local people are delighted to see that we travel as they do - on bicycles! We commence our adventure in the southern city of Guangzhou as we cycle the backroads out through rural China with stunning green rice fields, mud brick huts, buffaloes and farmers attending their fields as our daily backdrop. Crossing over to Guangxi Province we cycle to Yao minority villages enroute to the stunning limestone pinnacle landscape of Yangshuo. Located on the banks of the beautiful Li River, Yangshuo's sublime scenery has inspired painters and poets for centuries. Following our cycle ride we travel to Xian to visit one of the most significant discoveries of the 20th century - the Terracotta Warriors; then continue to Beijing to visit the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. This trip provides an incomparable panorama of rural, ancient and modern China. No wonder this is one of our most popular trips.
